Is Hate-filled Speech “Free Speech”?

The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution doesn’t allow vitriolic, hate-filled speech.  Or does it?  Of all amendments to the Constitution, the First Amendment covers so much territory concerning Americans’ rights, among which are: freedom to worship a God or not; freedom to speak out in public either verbally or via print (at the time of the signing of the Bill of Rights and the Constitution in 1789), and in the evolution of commerce–on television and over the radio.  This evolution of thought and opinion has been extended to include cell phones and the Internet.  Unabashedly, Republican political leaders spilled their hate, as printed in the Onion, in these despicable quotes:

On August 10, 2011, Eric Cantor, House Majority Leader said: ” Vote Obama in 2012. It’s the only way we’ll be able to finish ripping out his soul.”

And, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said: “There is no greater joy in my life than making Obama hate his.”

Further, Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus said: “I have donated all RNC funds to the Obama reelection campaign.  Helping the president win a second term so we can obliterate every last remaining vestige of happiness from his life remains our top priority.”

Is this Onion piece tongue-in-cheek or for real?  You be the judge.  Everything said in the complete article falls into line with what the American public has seen over the past three years: Republicans agreeing to compromise and then backing off at the time to vote for a bill; wasting precious time and our money over a strategy intended to destroy another human being–the President of the United States of America!

Have you been following this debacle by the Republican-led House?  Are you a voter?  If you said no to both of these questions I challenge you to tell me why not.   You can register to vote if you are an American citizen and over 18 years of age.   (There should be no other restrictions–however, some states are trying to manage who gets to vote.  This is illegal, but some states are trying to do just that.)

I URGE you to wake up Mr., Ms., or Mrs. Voter!   Pay attention to which members of your Congress are trying to destroy the Office of the President by destroying President Obama.  It is a very sorry time  in the history of this great country when elected members of Congress speak out and openly admit to trying to destroy the president of these United States– President Obama–another human being.

Where are the outcries about these horrible quotes?   Are they so incredible that we cannot fathom elected officials would utter such plans?  Are these elected officials committing treason?

We are on the slippery slope…only YOU can get us back up to the top!  Get involved in your nation’s  economic and political issues.  Only YOU can!  Speak out!  VOTE!
