Stories written by JoAnn
In addition to my first book ("Democracy vs. Theocracy: The President and The Senate Will Decide YOUR FUTURE", 2008), I write personal biographies for family legacy, tributes for birthdays, anniversaries and retirements under my company name: "What's Your Story?". Since 2001 I have authored biographies for two women in American history: Antoinette Brown Blackwell and Maria Mitchell for the Unitarian Universalist Association's Dictionary of Unitarian Univeralist Biography (DUUB). Currently, I am revising the first book to reflect changes by the U.S. Supreme Court since 2008 regarding the First Amendment. My dedication to upholding the U.S. Constitution is a passion! My quest to inform Americans of the absolute importance of staying involved with the workings of our government is written into every essay. I encourage--no, DEMAND--that citizens register to vote and then get involved in order to safeguard all rights to citizenship--and go to the polls every election! Start at your local level and question all comers! Follow what is going on at the state and federal levels-- Supreme Court decisions determine our lives and how we must adhere to laws enacted by the Congress. Read my book--it will never be out of style!

Can Catholic Bishops Invade a Romney White House?

Dateline April 25, 2012.  Catholic bishops seem to enjoy favor among some lawmakers.  They don’t with the current Executive branch of the U.S. Federal government—or do they?  President Obama has entertained the hierarchy of the largest Christian religious sect. What did they talk about?  We may never know.  However, the Catholic bishops choose to attack the Affordable Health Care Act which would provide all women—Catholic or not—to have access to contraception.  That’s the bogeyman today: contraception.  It is not the bishops’ business, or anyone else’s business, if an American woman wants to choose when or not all to bear a child.  It is not any religious leader’s business—this is not a theocracy—yet!

What do you think about a Romney White House? Will he entertain Catholic bishops?  Many Catholics believe that Mormonism is a cult, as do many Protestants. Many Catholics don’t perceive the devotion to Mary, the Blessed Mother, as cult, but many Protestants see it that way.  So, will Mitt Romney be accessible to the Catholic bishops? It is possible. Politics makes for strange bedfellows.

In the President G.W. Bush White House and in the Department of Justice, Protestant evangelicals had an open door and full access to Bush.  Attorney General Ashcroft held prayer meetings—“you will be there”.  Bush professed allegiance to God during his campaign for president.  We Americans do not have to profess that—the Constitution doesn’t require it—in fact, it prohibits it!  It requires no oath to a god/goddess or God when being sworn in by the Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court for any office.

Read Article 6: “The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or Public trust under the United States.”

It bothers me greatly that the current theme of some religion-controlled Republicans is to denigrate the U.S. Constitution by referring to the Obama White House as attempting to make America’s government a secular government. BY DESIGN it is a secular government!  There is no mention of a God!

Wake up, America!  You are on the slippery slope to becoming a theocracy. The Democrats have been holding back the tide of Dominionism, Christian Zionism, and phony religion attitudes with one hand tied behind their backs by the U .S. Supreme Court!  By design: when a Supreme Court justice retires, the President and the Senate will agree to appoint the replacement.  THEY will decide YOUR FUTURE! The current mix of justices is heavy with religious persuasion. How will YOU be affected by the appointment?

So—I ask again—how will a Romney White House react to the Catholic bishops, the Catholic and Protestant Religious Right in making certain that their kind of justice is appointed?  Are you concerned?  You should be!

Are you a registered voter?  If not—get registered, join a party and ask the tough questions of people who would be your Senators and your President:  How will you deal with the Religious Right activists who are trying to take over the government?  Is your allegiance to the U.S. Constitution—a secular government–or is it to your church?  Ask them!

The future of America and the vote is in YOUR hands.  Contraception isn’t the only issue.
